The Occupational Therapy Council of Australia (OTC)
The OTC is an independent not-for-profit organisation (company limited by guarantee) whose purpose is to ensure that standards of education, training and assessment of occupational therapists are maintained and developed so the Australian public is assured of safe and proper practice. The OTC is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
The OTC is an independent organisation appointed by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA) as the Accreditation Authority for the profession to:
- develop program accreditation standards in occupational therapy
- accredit and monitor occupational therapy programs of study and education providers
- provide the OTBA with accreditation reports on programs of study and education providers
- assess internationally qualified occupational therapists who want to work in Australia
The OTC is governed by a board of non-executive directors comprised of qualified occupational therapists and other members of the community who are able to contribute relevant skills for the good governance of the organisation.
The positions
The OTC is on a transformative journey to strengthen cultural safety, responsiveness, and the delivery of healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. As part of its commitment to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being, and doing, OTC are recruiting four non-executive directors in 2025. These appointments aim to bring fresh perspectives, foster strong community connections, and ensure robust board succession planning.
The board is seeking to recruit four non-executive directors which includes:
- two non-executive directors who identify as, and have lived experience as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and
- two non-executive directors as succession for the two directors retiring at the 2025 AGM.
As a member of the OTC board, you will help steer the OTC toward greater cultural capability and operational excellence. New directors are expected to bring a combination of relevant sector expertise, community insights, and a commitment to excellence in governance.
OTC also welcome applications from candidates who are considering their first non-executive director role, provided they meet the key selection criteria.
Key selection criteria
The successful candidates must be able to meet the following criteria.
- delivering occupational therapy clinical services, including practical experience in various settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centres or community health services, and/or
- advancing and maintaining the quality of education, training and program accreditation under the National Law, and/or
- strong community connection/s and an ability to bring a community and/or consumer perspective to the work of the board.
In line with the OTC’s focus on diversity and inclusion, applications are being encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, people from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, gender and generational diversity.
These are remunerated roles and reasonable expenses associated with board matters are met by the OTC.
The OTC is seeking candidates from across Australia.
