UnitingCare’s services include: BlueCare, The Wesley Hospital, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital, St Stephen’s Hospital. Lifeline in Queensland, and Australia Region and Remote Community Services (ARRCS) in the Northern Territory.
UnitingCare has over 17,000 employees and 9,000 volunteers working with more than 430,000 individuals, families and communities per annum. For the year ended 30 June 2023, UnitingCare reported total revenue of approximately $1.94B and had approximately $1.77B in non-current assets.
The position
There are two (2) vacant non-executive director positions. One director has reached their maximum term and stepped off the board and a second director will reach their maximum term in March 2025.
The board
UnitingCare is governed by a board of non-executive directors appointed by the Synod of the Uniting Church in Queensland, on the recommendation of the UnitingCare board. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable to the board for day-to-day management of operations.
The board is ultimately accountable to its member, the Uniting Church, for ensuring that UnitingCare achieves its vision, purpose and strategic and business objectives in an ethical, legal and sustainable way taking into account risk.
As a faith-based organisation, it is essential that all UnitingCare directors have a strong interest in, and preparedness to engage with, the Uniting Church Synod. They must share a similar passion, goals and objectives for the organisation while remaining truly independent and effective.
Selection criteria
- All directors are to have board experience that is commensurate with an organisation the size and complexity of UnitingCare.
- One non-executive director is to have demonstrated skills and experience in property development.
- One non-executive director is to have deep business and commercial acumen, having served in a CEO or CFO capacity, within a large complex business.
- Directors should have relevant sector experience (aged care, disability services, child safety, domestic violence or other social services) or lived experience relevant to these sectors.
- At least one director is to be an active member of the Uniting Church.
UnitingCare is seeking candidates based on the Australian East Coast as well as regional Queensland.
Remuneration
The board is remunerated including additional fees for holding a Committee Chair position.
Time commitment
It is anticipated that the time required to hold a UnitingCare board position is approximately 25-30 days per annum, including meeting preparation time. The board meets 8 times per year in Brisbane for approximately 7 hours per meeting. Committees meet approximately 6 times per annum and directors are expected to participate in two board committees.
